Position: Junior Source Analyst - Protection Functional Capability Board

Location: The Pentagon

Clearance: Top Secret, verifiable in JPAS



Labor Category Description:    The Junior Source Analyst supports the JCIDS processes to include analyzing Combatant Commander, Service, or Defense Agency issues and analyzing capability documents such as ICDs, CDDs, CPDs, Joint Concepts, White Papers, & Concepts of Operations (CONOPS).  Further, provides comments and recommendations to action officers for consideration and provide written draft assessments of assigned topics, such as identified capability gaps and on-going/future assessments.  Junior Source Analyst will analyze proposals, assess new capabilities and propose recommendations to fill gaps. 


General Duties:  Source Analysts shall support studies of combined and joint military operations conducted across the spectrum of war, from theater campaigns to operations other than war.  Study objectives include course of action analysis, operational planning, time-phased force deployment data, feasibility assessments, identifying and managing areas of operational risk, determining force requirements, and developing tactics, techniques, and procedures for tactical and operational problems. 


Analysis is performed using widely accepted military combat models and simulations, all source intelligence analysis as well as other appropriate operations research techniques.  Source Analysts provide support to gaming activities. Source Analysts interpret, synthesize, and present results and recommendations to senior military and civilian decision makers.  Source Analysts shall be responsible for employing and maintaining selected models and simulations (to include their data bases) specifically designed to analyze some aspect of military operations. 


Under immediate supervision, formulates and defines analysis scope and objectives.



 General Skills & Experience:

  • Provide analytical support and recommendations to support assessment of JCIDS topics
  • Facilitate and prepare FCB working group recommendations
  • Provide collaboration and coordination for Joint Staff Action Processing on items related to the task being supported
  • Assist in the analysis of Combatant Command Integrated Priority Lists (IPL) in order to address matters relating to the task the contractor is supporting
  • Conduct research activities focused on project requirements and deliverables
  • Participate in the conduct CBAs; assess programming impacts of new capabilities
  • Review/analyze related project reports to ensure accuracy/validity
  • Analyze information using basic statistical and logical methods
  • Report analysis and research results through formal and informal briefings and through formal and informal writing
  • Prepare and participate in the delivery of presentations explaining and defending research and analysis results
  • Works well within a team

Force Protection Task-specific duties:

  • Provide specific expertise in key portfolio elements of personnel protection (including personnel recovery and anti-terrorism), physical asset protection (platforms and systems), infrastructure protection, homeland defense and civil support
  • Assess, identify issues related to, and provide recommendations on capabilities to the Joint Requirements Oversight Council (JROC), the Joint Capabilities Board (JCB) and the Protection Functional Capabilities Board (P FCB)
  • Develop, Assess and Coordinate Joint Force Protection Issues
  • Review, assess and provide protection subject matter expertise to support DoD Components in developing Joint operating concepts (JOC), Joint integrating concepts (JIC), Joint enabling concepts (JEC), and operational concepts / concepts of operation for Joint warfighting
  • Facilitate Protection Work Groups, Conferences, and Meetings
  • Review and assess Force Protection and Survivability Key Performance Parameters (KPP)
  • Review and Assess Weapon Safety Endorsement
  • Provide "gatekeeper" function - serving as a focal point for scheduling and managing of individual FCB portfolios and activities, including daily interface with JICDS sponsors

The ideal candidate will have thorough knowledge of JCIDS and experience in Weapons Certification.


Clearance:  Top Secret clearance (based on SSBI completed within the last five year).  Clearance must be verifiable in JPAS.


Education:  Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum six (6) years of task related experience,
ten (10) years of military operational experience (5 of which earned as E-6 or O-3 or above). Operational experience includes planning and executing combined and joint operations at the theater or component level, knowledge of combat arms, all source intelligence analysis, logistics, civil-military operations, and site’s area of responsibility or functional area) and task related experience.
